A device discovery process, similar to WinDiscovery, is used to locate your Series II clocks on the LAN (Local Area Network). Note that you do not have to know the IP address or MAC address of the clock for the discovery feature to function. The discovery process uses bidirectional UDP packet broadcast communications on port 2000.
When the Series II Network Clock Firmware Update Utility is first opened, an automated search is initiated.
A list of discovered Series II devices appears in a search results frame. The search results frame indicates the type (base model) of the clock, name, current firmware version, current IP address, and in most recent versions a MAC address. The list is sorted [primary] by Type followed by [secondary sort] Name. Note that the default clock name is the base model type + MAC .
The search utility is automatic at both start up and after a clock has been updated. In the case of an automatic search after an update, a 30 second delay is added to allow time for the clock to restart/reboot onto the network.
While the search function is automatic, a manual search may also be initiated.
To initiate a manual search, select the "Search" option from the menu toolbar.
Once discovered, you can select one or more clocks to update.
Note: If the search results display a unit without a MAC address entry, the MAC address may be entered using the Fill in Missing MAC Addresses utility located under the Ping/Config menu
Select the clock with the missing MAC address, then select the Fill in Missing MAC Addresses utility..
